Open Mic Night at the Cabaret

For those of you who love live music, but prefer something a little quieter and more intimate, come to the cabaret for Open Mic Night. If you want to sing a song or jam, let us know in advance and we will try to schedule you in.

Quiet Hangout in the Foundation Room

The foundation room is a HUGE space with couches, little hang out niches, and funky spaces. There is also a large outdoor balcony. This is the ideal space to kick back with friends and colleagues after a busy day at the conference. We will keep the music low so you can actually talk and hear each other.

Formal Poker Tournament

7:45 to 11:00



This is a formal poker tournament with professional dealers. It requires a time commitment from 8:00 to 11:00. Please do not sign up if you are not serious about playing.

“Sit and Go” Casual Play

9:00 to 11:00



After the formal tournament starts, casual players are welcome to sit for an hour or so and play some cards. Come to the poker room (adjacent to the Foundation Room) and give your name to the host.

Sadly, Texas law prohibits us from playing for cash, but we will have prizes for the winners.

Government Employees

We understand that many government employees are discouraged from attending vendor receptions and parties because they run afoul of gift receiving policies. We have planned the PetaFLOP so that you can attend.

  • There is no single vendor inviting you to a private event. The party is sponsored by a group of vendors and it is open to anyone who is attending the SC conference.
  • There is an option to pay admission at the door — BUT ONLY IF YOU ARE REQUIRED BY YOUR EMPLOYER TO PAY YOUR WAY. The optional admission is $10.00.
  • There is a cash bar, and you can pay for your own drinks. Many vendors will be giving out free drink coupons, which have a retail value of about $10.00 each. You can accept these drink coupons or pay for your own drinks according to your employer’s policies.

Shuttle Bus

We will have shuttle buses running from the convention center to House of Blues as the conference comes to an end on Tuesday. The buses will then switch to a loop between House of Blues and the major conference hotels.
